After the Race
After the Race is a study of the ex-racing greyhound that seeks to question the way in which these animals have been utilised within the racing industry. Informed by the language of colonial photography and the human urge to control, the work is a response to anthropocentric attitudes and notions of the animal as ‘Other’. Carefully orchestrated compositions are broken in an attempt to remind the viewer that the animals presented are autonomous individuals in their own right who have little interest in conforming to the preconceived ideas or expectations of the viewer.
My photographic practice focuses primarily on the animal subject, questioning the complex and often contradictory way that humans frame other animals.
